Workin the Y5 on the Mexican border
Shippin in yearlings in late October
Haulin them out to the ol’ homestead
The cowboy’s job is to keep ‘em fed
When winter rains bring spring grasses
But keepin the gain of the winter rains
The chores get many tendin the herd
Beddin down at night on the desert ground
The chuck wagon cook is clankin his pots
Now the herd’s strung out like a centipede
‘Cause it won’t be long till roundup time
But a desert cowpoke won’t ever be rich
