Quito and The Desert Bunny
With no real plan to re-invent himself
Feelin’ like the fifth of July,
He takes off like a blind Brahma bull
Lookin’ for a brand new try.
Fallin’ head over heels for this desert Bunny
She was a tall drink of water,
She had him drownin’ like a bee in honey
And turned his brain into fodder.
She weren’t no one-hour paint and body
She was the absolute real thing,
Skin tight Wranglers and a red bandana
He wants to give this thing a fling.
She figgers’ him for another wannabe
Raised on prunes and quiche,
Dressed up like mom’s organic Dude
He might be hard to teach.
He liked the sound of a Mexican name
So he says my name is Quito,
Wearin’ a silver buckle and a Stetson hat
He homes in like a mosquito.
Now there’s girlies and there is cowgirls
And not a single one’s the same,
You can whip some ropin’ or barrel racin’
But some can put you to shame.
With his heart all het’ up he jus ain’t carin’
He’s like a bull to the slaughter,
He ain’t figgered’ out who the old man is
And that she’s his only daughter.
And this big guy’s been hangin’ around
He keeps followin’ like no other,
He’s the spittin’ image of her old Dad
He must be her red neck brother.
She invites poor Quito to the local dance
To do the ‘boot heel drag,’
And gets him all likkerd up and dancin’
‘Til she thinks he’s startin’ to sag.
She eggs him on the mechanical bull
So the crowd could have some fun,
Watchin’ this whimp dive in the sawdust
But—he’s a ridin’ son of a gun!
Turnin’ up the shake and buckin’ speed
He rides loose as a rag doll,
Leanin’ back and rakin’ the leather
He just never takes a fall.
What she didn’t know about this dude
He’s been ridin’ in the rodeo,
From Tucson to Elko and ‘ol Cheyenne
Givin’ them Brahma bulls a go.
He’s rode ‘em sober and he’s rode ‘em tight
And even won a purse or two,
Now that silver buckle is the real thing
He won on ‘Dangerous Slew.’
After a couple bucks for a couple of rides
He shore had his belly full,
The whole screamin’ saloon got real quiet
Hearin’ let’s see who’s full ‘a bull.’
Grabbin’ that Bunny around the waist
He pulled her up on the mount,
And set her in front and locked her legs
To ride the eight second count.
He hollererd ‘bartender let’s have a bull!
This perty girl’s wantin’ to play,
Rockin’ and rollin’ and buckin’ and swayin’
They did a real bar room ballet.
When the cowbell and the yellin’ stopped
She’s dizzy and limp as a rag,
Dismounting he lays her back with a kiss
Says ‘Now let’s do the boot heel drag.’
Well the desert Bunny fell in love with Quito
That’s after he whupp’d her brother,
And they rode out of town stirrup to stirrup
A cowboy’s sweetheart like no other.
