Caught!

Keenly observing nature is exhilarating. An intimate knowledge of nature is rewarding. But, experiencing nature surpasses both.

Caught!

Together our eyes search and scan
checking out the ecosystem;
a snowy owl with squinty eyes
and gnomish features, surveys
the weedy edge of the fence line
for the slightest movement
or faintest sound.

Suddenly an aberration of flying snow
planes the surface,
soaring like a ghostly white saucer;
the deadly silence of stealth
targets it’s prey—

Caught! I am left feeling
victim and victor…
and privileged,
for having shared.
